1) A drawing session with Tony Ryder. His drawings and paintings are magnificent. It was very cool to see him work and have him critique our drawings.
Below: Tony talking about his process;
one of our models, Mike; my 20-minute sketch of Mike

2) A painting demo with Mary Whyte. Mary is one of my favorite watercolor artists and a sincerely inspiring person. Not only did she demo, but she also gave a talk titled "Creating Your Best Paintings Ever" and was part of a group panel discussion on "The Business Side of Art".
Other highlights:
Portfolio critiques
The National Portrait Museum
Painting demos by some of my favorites: Scott Burdick, pastel artist Judy Carducci, Chris Saper, Dawn Whitelaw and too many others to mention
An absolutely wonderful presentation by Richard Schmid
.
I'm totally spent, but in a good way. Once again, I am fired up and thinking, "You know, I think this is truly possible..."

The Mary Whyte demo is fabulous. Her rendering of the skin is luminous. And the texture of the hat. Just wow!
I could read about your 4 fun filled days on and on. It just sounds so exciting to see these very talented people in action. Thanks for sharing a part of this with us.
Thanks for sharing about your experiences at the conference. I can imagine how inspired you must after talking to, watching, learning from all those greats...I like the sketch of the model too.
What a terrific conference! I'm so jealous! Was it in Pittsburgh Peggi?
Manon,
It was in Reston, Va, just outside Washington, DC. It will be there again next year.
Maria,
Maybe next time you will come with us!
Nancy,
It was an amazing group of artists, so willing to share their time and knowledge.
Willow,
Yes, Mary's work is amazing. Not many w/c portrait artists attend this event so it was a real treat.
What a great day you had. Wish I could have been a fly on the wall!
Verrry Cool! What a fun experience. And you bet it's 'truly possible'- especially for you girl.
